William W. Kelly was born in West Virginia to James Searchfield Kelly and his wife M. Mahala Stewart Kelly. He followed his true love, Rachel Warner to Nebraska where they married, later moving to western Iowa. They raised four children: Alma Edith (Cutler), Montie May (Buckingham), Claude and Fred Kelly. Later they took in two of the orphaned sons of Alma and Wilbur Cutler, their grandsons, Merle and Raymond Cutler.
