Son of Lemuel Washington Edgington and Edith Mae (or May) Bresby. Lemuel and Edith were married on April 3, 1906 in Wyandot County, Ohio. Edith, unfortunately, died on February 8, 1920 in Bucyrus Township, Crawford County, Ohio.

Lee was about ten years of age when his Mother died. He was the first children of the first FOUR born to his parents to survive infancy. He was one of the four surviving children left after Edith's death.

It is an unfortunate (or maybe fortunate) fact that when Edith died that Lemuel, for lack of a better term, farmed his children by Edith out to other relatives to raise. Grace is still living in Ohio, but, Dorothy, and Ruth are shipped out west to live with adoptive parents.

Census Records for Lee have not been located as of 3/5/2013 for the years of 1930 and 1940.

The only thing that is certain is that on May 18, 1929, Lee Adam Edgington married Frances C. Vogel, Daughter of Henry Vogel and Alice Keckler in Fulton County, Ohio. The marriage does not last as sometime between 1929 and 1940 Frances decides not to live with Lee. By 1940, Frances is either living with Charles Edward Jacquot or she is married to him. No records have been found to confirm that Frances and Charles were officially married. Also, in the 1940 Census, three children are listed. It is not certain as to whether Lee was the biological Father of the first two of these children or not. Specifically, the youngest children listed, Lois, was fathered by Charles Jacquot, according to Ohio Birth Records listed by Ancestry.com.

Lee married his second Wife, that is my Grandmother, Bertha Vivian Hackathorn, Daughter of Walter Allen Hackathorn and Rosa Mae Dell Koon, on May 24, 1940 in Bucyrus Township, Crawford County, Ohio. This marriage was long lasting and produced the following children:

1. Julia Lee Edgington. Julia married, sometime before 1959, Herman Howard Schmidt, Son of George Howard Schmidt and Anna Edna Miller. Julia and Herman were divorced in Summit County, Ohio by June 23, 1961. The couple had two children which Herman retained custody of after the marriage dissolved and which his parents helped, in part to raise. Herman married two more times after his divorce from Julia. Julia remarried on June 28, 1963 in Summit County, Ohio. Her second Husband was Gary Walters, Son of Alfred C. Walters and Alma Tankersley. This marriage also produced two children which were raised jointly by Julia and Gary to adulthood. Julia and Gary divorced on May 14, 2001 in Summit County, Ohio.

2. Jerry Edward Edgington was born October 22, 1944 in Akron, Summit County, Ohio. Jerry married Susan Lee Stuart on September 27, 1962 in Akron, Summit County, Ohio. She was the Daughter of Robert E. Stuart and Lee Ida Robbins. Jerry, unfortunately, died at a very early age on January 19, 1973 in Akron, Summit County, Ohio.

Bertha, Lee's second Wife, and my Grandmother, died on April 9, 1982 in Washington County, Ohio.

Lee married a third a final time on September 10, 1983 to Margaret I. Shook, Daughter of James Daniel Shook and Gertrude Lucas. Margaret had been married twice before, first of all to Clark L. Busch and then to George I. Dye.

Lee's obituary states, among other things that he "was born in Marietta". Although this is possible, it is NOT probable, as his father's family and his mother's family were located in Wyandot and Crawford counties, which is in the northern part of the state, far from Marietta, Ohio.

Lee's obituary also states that he "was an ordained minister in the Church of God and served as minister at the Church of God, S. Sixth St., Marietta. He was a machinist. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of Washington County Post 5108, Veterans of Foreign Wars." The obituary can be found in "The Pleasants County Leader" -- St. Marys, WV May 1989" which is online. After checking, I did indeed find out that my Grandfather had served in the U.S. Navy from at least 1944-1945.
