Mary Nazarita Anthony Shuman, beloved and treasured Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother passed away, March 2, 2013, surrounded by the treasures of her life, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her many years of suffering are over and the peace she always requested is hers.

Born on April 12, 1928, in Abbottstown, she was the daughter of Harry Edward Anthony and Geneva Rutter Anthony.

Mary lived in accordance with her faith, believed in the power of prayer and taught her children to "make their lives a prayer". We are left here to honor her happy spirit and to continue the music of her life which encouraged us always toward goodness, kindness and sensibility. Thank you, dear Mama.

As a young girl after graduating from York Catholic High School, Mary worked as a legal secretary locally; but, also reveled in her career as a Singer with the Black Diamonds, a Big Band performing gigs locally at the Valencia and taking their show through many Pennsylvania and Ohio nightclubs. Mary was known to strike up a tune without much coaxing. Simply call her by her stage name, "Sharon Raye" and let the fun begin!!! The joy derived from her singing was a gift given to many of our days.

Mary went on to marry her dear Gene at their beloved Old St. Mary's and together they fulfilled their promise to God and each other to raise their children within the Catholic Faith which they so loved.

Mrs. Shuman is survived by her seven children, Gina Heidler and husband Duane, Lisa Quinlivan and husband Daniel, Eugene Shuman and wife Carol, Tony Shuman, Matthew Shuman and wife Karen, Mary Bohn and husband Robert, and Joan Campisi and husband Russ. And, for Mary, her children were her life, her love - all that she prayed for and dreamed of. Mary is also survived by her adoring grandchildren, Matthew and Jenna, Brendon and Christian, Eugene and Amanda, Lisa and Leslie, Christa, Christian and Clinton; and Tony, Danny, Michael and Matthew. Mary is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren; Maya, Ella, Carter, Libby, Gavin, Jack, Cecelia, Andrew, Heath, John, Carson, with three great-grandbabies soon to be born; her sister, Regina Wagaman and a sister-in-law, Elizabeth "Boady" Tighe.

Mary was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Christine; her sister, Josephine Pemberton; brothers, Bernard Anthony, Fred Anthony and Francis "Piney" Anthony; and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, March 6, 2013, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 309 S. George St., with the Rev. John Sawicki officiating. A viewing will be held before the Mass at 9 a.m. Burial to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Starcross Road.
