TANEY COUNTY REPUBLICAN --February 15, 1923
Mrs. Elizabeth Keithley died January 31, 1923. She was 73 years old. She was a daughter of Samuel T. and Vica Weatherman. Was married to Willie Keithley shortly after the civil war. Mr. Keithley was an honorably discharged Union soldier. He died eleven years before his wife. They reared a family of five boys and five girls, to wit: William, Rosen and Welcome Keithley of Reeds Spring, Walter Keithley of Kansas City and Wish Keithley of Forsyth, Mrs. Katie Griffith of Eureka, Kansas, Mrs. Laura Florence of Kansas City, Mrs. Canney Eubanks of Rice, Oklahoma, and Martha and Vica Linda, who died in early womanhood. She lived a consistent Christian life and taught her children both by precept and example the Christian life, calling them to her in the last hour and requesting them to meet her in heaven. All her children were present at the last except Walter Keithley, who was unable to reach there in time. She was buried in the Walnut Shade cemetery, on the beautiful banks of Bear Creek. A host of sorrowing friends and relatives were there to pay the last tribute of respect to the beloved mother, sister and friend. Kind friends sang the beautiful songs of Christian faith and hope. The writer preached her funeral and she was laid away to await the resurrection. We have our sorrow but not without hope, because the scripture has said, blessed are the dead that die in the Lord, for they shall rest from their labors and their works do follow them. J.C. Palmer
