Departed.--Samuel B. Grubb died last Monday morning at 3 o'clock from the injuries received on the mountain ten days before. His suffering was intense much of the time, and would have been unbearable but for the alleviating effects of opiates. The nature of the accident almost precluded hope of his recovery from the first, and yet death lost none of its pangs for the bereaved ones by the brief respite it gave to the departed spirit. The funeral was on Wednesday. The cortege left Dead Indian early in the morning and arrived at the cemetery about twelve o'clock. The solemn services at the grave were conducted by Rev. Wm. Clyde, who will also preach the funeral sermon in the Presbyterian Church next Sunday morning.
Untimely death could not have taken from our midst one better prepared to live--better furnished with bright prospects of future happiness, honor and usefulness. A happy, cheerful temper, winning friends on every side, an honest, manly heart, an upright, industrious, successful life, to which we can point as a bright example of the virtues of true principles and genuine worth of character, our young friend was just such an one as we should have singled out to save if the death darts were falling like a shower of hail in our valley. To the bereaved hearts that feel the weight of this sad affliction words of condolence are but harsh and empty sound, yet the sweet memory of a true and noble young life is with them to soften and soothe the anguish of their grief.
