The Company Descriptive Book reveals he was 5 ft 8 in, Light complexion, Blue eyes, Light hair, born in Green County, Ohio, a Farmer, enlisted for 3 years.

On August 18, 1862 he was mustered in from Indianapolis as Private to Company B, 71st Regiment, Indiana Infantry. The online records indicate his residence was Xenia, Ohio.

Among his Military records is the Prisoner of War Memorandum which indicates George, a Private of Co B, 71 Ind. was captured at Richmond KY, August 30, 1862, was present to October 31, 1862 --- was also captured at Rolling Fork (Muldraugh?) Hill, KY, Dec 28 1862 to Jan 10, 1863.

He was transferred February 23, 1863 to Company B, 6th Regiment, Indiana Cavalry. The Company Muster-Out Roll reveals Pvt. George C Grannell leaves the company, June 17, 1865 in Pulaski TN; was last paid Feb 29, 1864; last settled for clothing Oct 31, 1863; bounty paid 25$; he is due 75$ and discharge given, he was age 21.
