Mary was the daughter of Joseph T Pack & Nellie Craft.
She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church and the Live Wire Sunday School Class.
She and her first husband, Vernon W. Riggs owned and operated Riggs Wallpaper and Paint Store from 1948-1971. Vernon died in 1981.
She was an employee of J.C. Penney, personnel manager at Salt Fork Lodge and retired from the Guernsey County LIbrary, known for working in the Finley Room. She was well known in the genealogy field and was a certified genealogist, assisting many in their family search.
She was past president of Daughters of Union Veterans, Life member of Ladies Auxiliary Military Order of the Purple heart, past president of the Guernsey County Genealogical Society, past member of Civil War Roundtable, Pioneer Families of Guernsey County, Kate B. Sherwood Tent 42, Valley Grange 1586, Ohio Genealogical Society, first Families of Guernsey and Belmont Counties of Ohio.
Mary was honored for her tireless efforts to restore the Civil War Monument at the Guernsey County Courthouse. Soon after the repairs were done, vandals damaged the monuments and she again worked very hard to raise money to have it repaired. She and her first husband initiated the First Families of Guernsey County in 1981.
She married George Kappes in 1989. He passed away in 1999.

She was preceded in death by an infant son, James V. Riggs in 1944; a grandson, Scott George in 1987; and two brothers, Alpheus Pack and J. Robert Pack.
