McChesney was born Jan. 10, 1903, in rural Kaw City, in the Cherokee Outlet, Oklahoma Territory, to Susie (Hoffer) and Sylvester Douglas Taylor. She was raised and educated in Kaw City.

As a young woman, she helped her family on the farm and also worked at the Joseph Movie House and Joseph Mercantile.

She married Harry R. McChesney on Nov. 28, 1923, at her parents' home in Kaw City, where the couple made their first home. She worked in a sandwich shop baking pies and making sandwiches for the oilfield employees. She and her husband also owned and operated a dry cleaning business.

In 1929, they moved to Cambridge where they made their home for over 45 years. They moved to Winfield in 1975 and to Dexter in 1992. Mr. McChesney died Aug. 21, 1995. Mrs. McChesney had resided at the Dexter Care Center since 1996.

She was a member of the Cambridge Presbyterian Church where she founded the tradition of going to Redford Hill for Easter sunrise service — a tradition that continues today.

She was preceded in death by her sons, Vaughn McChesney and Joe McChesney.
