Dorthy E. Griffith, 87, of Albany died Thursday at the Mennonite Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born to Ernest and Heartha (Knackstadt) Boege in McClelland, Iowa. She married Harley W. Griffith on Nov. 17, 1945.
Dorthy moved to Oregon in the early 1950s with her husband and their four children. They resided in the Philomath and Corvallis areas ever since, and together raised their family and several foster children. Dorthy was fond of her grandchildren, and was known to move both heaven and earth for her grandson. Dorthy was known around Oregon as the "Bird Lady," and you could always find her in charge of the aviary at the state fairgrounds come fair time. She founded several bird clubs in and around Oregon, with the Ruffled Feathers of Albany being her last.
Her hobbies were raising birds, helping kids and just being friendly.
Survivors include her sons, Larry Griffith and his wife, Mary, and Jim Griffith and his wife, Eloise; and grandchildren Jonathan and Rosalie. She was preceded in death by her husband; her son, Carl; and daughter LaRee.
Memorial services are set for 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, at First Evangelical Church of Albany. Inurnment will take place at Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Columbarium.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Autistic Foundation.
