The Texhoma Times (Texhoma, Okla.), Vol. 10, No. 49, Ed. 1 Friday, August 22, 1913

C. Hampton, one of our old time and substantial farmers was struck and instantly killed by lightning last Friday, at the Prachar farm, five miles northeast of Texhoma where the Hampton family was residing at this time. Mr. Hampton, during the rain had gone to the pasture to look after a horse. The folks in the house became uneasy about his prolonged absence and went in search. when he was found lying on his face at the corner of the barn, with his pipe gripped tightly in one hand. Every effort was made to revive the lifeless body, but to no avail. It is stated that there was no burn or mark on the body, however, one of the neighbors who was some distance from the Hampton home, saw the lightning as it struck the unfortunate man. Interment was made in the Texas
cemetery Saturday evening, with assistance of brother Odd Fellow, of which order Mr. Hampton was a member, and the largest funeral cortege which has been witnessed here in a long time, paid the last tribute to this respected citizen. The Times extends deepest sympathies to the grief stricken relatives.
