Mrs. Nettie Chelf, wife of L. R. Chelf, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. O. W. Beard, in this city, Saturday, March 5, at the age of fifty-three years, eleven months and seventeen days. The deceased was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Spurling, and was married to Mr. L. R. Chelf, on July 5, 1895. She had united with the Christian Church at Roley, at the age of seventeen, later moving her membership to the Knifley Christian Church, where she was ever strong supporter of the cause and lived an exemplary Christian life, and her cheerful disposition had surrounded her with a large circle of loving and admiring friends to whom her passing will be a distinct loss. She is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Spurling; her husband, L. R. Chelf and nine children: Mrs. O. W. Beard, of this city; Mrs. E. P. Waggoner and Mrs. Charles Cooley, of Columbia; Mrs. Wallace Knifley, Knifley, Ky.; and Ruby, Hazel, Marshall, James and Paul, at home. At the time of her death, Mrs. Chelf had just arrived at the home of her daughter, in this city for a short visit, and was stricken with a sudden heart attack from which she did not rally and her death came as sad and severe shock to her family and friends, as she had been in her usual health prior to the fatal attack. The remains were taken from here to her home in Knifley Sunday and funeral services were held from the Knifley Christian Church Monday afternoon, at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. E. P. Gast, pastor of the Christian Church, followed by interment in Brookside Cemetery. The pallbearers were: Messrs. Cassius Breeding, Al Hovious, James Davis, Charles Tucker, A. R. Lyon, and Dr. Raffety.
