DODGEVILLE - Marion (Nick) Bates, 60, of Dodgeville, died Wednesday at Portage View Hospital several hours after being admitted.

He was born March 7, 1922, in Donken, a son of Maude and Herbert Bates. He later lived in Luther and since 1945 had resided in Dodgeville.

During Word War II, he served in the United States Army with the 60th Infantry.

He was a member of Rangers Post 6165, Veterans of Foreign Wars in South Range, and a member of St. Mary's Church in Atlantic Mine.

On Sept. 6, 1945, he married Josephine Brozovich in St. Mary's Church.

Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Roy (Mary Ann) Cassady of Columbus, Ohio, and Mrs. Robert (JoAnn) Kezele of Ahmeek; three sons, Francis (Barbara) of Hancock, James (Vicky) of Hurontown and Joseph of Dodgeville; nine grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Iva Gauthier of Pearl Beach; a brother, Archie of Hurontown, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Church in Atlantic Mine. The Rev. Glen Weber will officiate and burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Houghton.

Friends may call at the Plowe Funeral Home in Houghton from 2 to 6 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. Members of Rangers VFW Post will meet there at 7 p.m. A prayer service will be said there at 8 p.m.
