GEORGE WALTER SMITH
GEORGE WALTER SMITH of Ottumwa Iowa died in the Wapello County Hospital (Ottumwa Hospital) yesterday of a heart attack. He fell ill at his home Saturday and was taken to the hospital about midnight.
He was a retired employee of the former Nichols Manufacturing Co Prior to his employment there he had been supertendent of the former Wonder Drill Co.
The son of Z. T. and JOANNA FELL SMITH he was born in Jefferson County Iowa on September 13 1883 He was a resident of Ottumwa Iowa for 70 years.
MR SMITH was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and was a member and past master of Empire Lodge No 269 AF& AM
His marriage to COLEOTA L BAER took place November 21 1902 In Ottumwa Iowa She died October 11, 1953 He was also preceded in death by one son in infancy three sisters and six brothers
Surviving are one son KENNETT (KENNETH) SMITH of Ottumwa and one daughter MRS BETTY MCELDERRY of Greenbelt MD six grandchildren four great grandchildren and one brother FRED SMITH of Ottumwa.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 1:30 at the Johnson Funeral
Chapel with the Rev C W Guald of the East End Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be in the Ottumwa Cemetery.
Masonic services will be held at the funeral chapel and at the grave.
Paullbearers will be DEE LEEDOM GLEN WILBANKS DALE COX MARK HAMMOND DEWITT EDMONDSON and GERALD H MCGEE. The casket will be closed at the beginning of the service.
