Peter and his brother Andrew Shaver [Jr.] were sons of Andrew Shaver [Sr.], originally spelled "Schaber" who was born in Bremen Germany.

Peter Shaver came to Muhlenberg abt 1815, and was regarded as one of the best educated men in the "Dutch Settlement". It was he who, in honor of his father's birthplace, had the post office called Bremen.

The day he and his wife celebrated their golden wedding they had their portraits made. On the same day he recorded in the following in their family bible--

"November 30, 1865; Peter Shaver was married to Nancy Peters November 30, 1815. We, the above-named Peter and Nancy Shaver, have, through the blessing of God, lived fifty years in the state of matrimony and are this day in good health and able to take care of ourselves. God be praised for his mercy and goodness."
