Son of Arch and Malinda "Nellie" Scraper. Born and died in Goingsnake District, Cherokee Nation.

The Weekly Chieftain, Vinita, Oklahoma, Thursday, 14 May 1885 reads...
One of the young Stovers last week shot and killed Archilla Scraper, a son of Capt. Arch Scraper, of Going Snake District.

Same paper same day continues ....
Shameful, If True - It is reported that the killing of Archilla Scraper at Going Snake Court House was the result of a drunken spree in which the sheriff's guards were indulging. John Stover the man who shot Scraper was guarding a prisoner and a general and promiscuous fight was brought on. Two horses were killed in the Skirmish. While Leonard Williams was in Stover's care last winter the outfit got drunk and the prisoner knocked his guard down. Stover jumped up and fired at him, but a bystander knocked the pistol to one side and no damage was done.

From the Vinita Indian Chieftain, 11-19-1885-- The death sentence of Stover for killing Archilla Scraper has been commuted to imprisonment for a stated time. As the council is now in session it may be well to repeal the death penalty for murder, as it will save the chief and his executive councillors the trouble of disregarding the verdict of twelve men as wise and just as they.

From the Indian Pioneer History interview of William Jones: "The Stover boys (Jim & John Stover) were hung when Lincoln England was Sheriff."
