EDWARDSBURG, Mich. — Joy Wanda Mapes, 81, of Edwardsburg, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, at Elkhart General Hospital.

She was born Sept. 14, 1931, in Elkhart, Ind., to the late Howard D. and Clara (Ritchie) Westlake.

In addition to her parents, former husbands George Wheelock, John W. Oswalt and Harold Penn; brothers Howard and Harvey Westlake; and sister Juanita "Mickey" Myrick preceded her in death.

She married Brian M. Mapes Feb. 16, 2010, in Elkhart.

He survives, as do a daughter, Vicki J. Wheelock of Edwardsburg; stepsons Ronald L. (Barbara) Oswalt and Terry L. (Rose) Oswalt, both of Elkhart; stepdaughters Cathy (Mark Boyd) Oswalt of Carpenteria, Calif., and Erica (John) Kropp-Wilson of North Carolina; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters Sue (Hal) Locke of Washington and her twin Joyce (Perry) Tubbs of Elkhart; brothers Bill (Janice) Westlake of Shoals, John (Betty) Westlake of White Pigeon, and David (Sharon) Westlake and Thomas (Sherry) Westlake, both of Elkhart; and her sister-in-law Jackie Westlake of White Pigeon.

Joy formerly worked as a manager for the Burger Dairy Stores in Elkhart and retired from Ramco. She was a member of New Life Christian Center in Bristol, and was a former member of VFW and DAV 19 in Elkhart. Joy loved her family and her grandchildren, and will be greatly missed by her Yorkie, Abbey.

Visitation with the family will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. Services to celebrate her life will begin at 11 a.m Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, at the funeral home, where friends may call for one hour prior. The Rev. Dwight Gosser will officiate. Burial will follow at Adamsville Cemetery.
