Thomas Westlake Mar. 5, 1941 - Mar. 25, 2015 ELKHART - Thomas R. "Tom" Westlake, 74, of Elkhart, passed away at the Center for Hospice Care in Elkhart following an extended illness at 1:45 am on Wednesday, Mar. 25, 2015. He was born in Elkhart on Mar. 5, 1941 to the late Howard and Clara (Ritchie). On June 7, 1985, he married Sherri K. Sheffield in Elkhart. She survives at home. Surviving are his sons Steven (Tracie) Westlake of Mishawaka, Chris (Tracy) Westlake of South Bend and Josh and Kyle (Stevie Otto) Westlake, both of Elkhart; grandchildren Eric and Susanna Westlake; brothers William (Janis) Westlake of French Lick, John (Betty) Westlake of White Pigeon, MI and David (Sharon) Westlake of Elkhart; and sisters Joyce (Perry) Tubbs of Elkhart and Clara "Susie" (Hal) Locke of Florida. Preceding Tom in death are his brothers Harvey and Howard "Buck" Westlake and sisters Joy Mapes and Juanita "Mick" Myrick. Tom's life will be celebrated at Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart, beginning with a viewing on Monday, Mar. 30, 2015 from 6-8 pm. The service will then be held Tuesday, Mar. 31, 2015 at 11:00 am with visitation beginning one hour prior. Pastor Larry Smith of Calvary United Methodist Church will officiate and burial will follow at Prairie Street Cemetery. Tom had spent over 20 years in the furniture business, mostly at Leath-Newland Furniture in Benton Harbor, MI. He retired from Montgomery Ward in Elkhart. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed watching Notre Dame football and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. He also liked to spend time with his family and in his garden.
