Brice Devon Lewis
(March 2, 1929 - February 18, 2013)
U.S. Veteran

SYRACUSE - Brice Devon Lewis, beloved family member and friend, was born in Aurora, Utah on March 2nd 1929 to Willard Leo Lewis and Estella Elnora Draper. We are saddened to announce his passing on February 18th. He was 83 years old.

Brice grew up in the rural town of Aurora, Utah where he learned the value of hard work early on by helping his family on their farm. Though they were poor, Brice was always happy. He loved to ride horses and could often be found whistling or singing – a trait that stayed with him all his life.

As a young man Brice served his country in the Korean War as a Corporal in the 213th Armored Field Artillery Battalion.

Shortly after his return from the war, Brice married his long-time sweetheart Donna Lee Bab Hatch from Koosharem, Utah. They said "I Do" on December 18th, 1951 in Ely Nevada and were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. Donna was the love of his life. They enjoyed over 62 years of marriage together.

Brice had many jobs during his life including: clay mill laborer, sugar beet topper, car washer, pig farmer, and night watchman. His primary occupation was as an ironworker for over 20 years. He was proud of the many structures he helped to erect, but he was even more proud of the family he raised along the way.

Brice and Donna had 11 children. David, Karen, Richard, Jerald, Bryan, Blaine, Ronald, Shanen, Julie Ann, Sherrie Anne, and Paul resulting in a numerous posterity of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Brice had a love for the outdoors including boating, camping, fishing and caring for animals. He also enjoyed trading horses and cars – maybe even more than riding them. People who knew him well nicknamed him "Nice Brice". He was an exceptional listener and friend.

After retirement, Brice and Donna were called to the Montana Billings Mission where they served among the Cheyenne and Blackfoot people. Later they also fulfilled a service mission in Salt Lake City.

Brice passed away peacefully at the Promise LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah on Monday following health complications.

The family wishes to express their heart-felt gratitude to Dr. Kristen Novak at the VA W. Valley clinic and the doctors, nurses, and therapists in ICU at the VA hospital in Salt Lake City.

Brice was the youngest member of his family and was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, and twin daughters.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 22nd at 1:00 pm at the Utah Veterans Cemetery located at 17111 South Camp Williams Road in Bluffdale, Utah.

There will be a viewing prior to the funeral services starting at noon.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to Lindquist's Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Road.
