He was born at Auburn, Iowa the son of Peter and Fern (Robson) Bauer. The family moved to a farm northwest of Pocahontas, IA when he was four years old. He graduated from Ware, IA Consolidated Schools in 1949. He served in the Army from 1952-1954 during the Korean War. Following his honorable discharge he returned to Pocahontas where he took over the family farming operation. On February 21, 1955 he was united in marriage to Catherine (Katy) Bollard at Sacred Heart Church in Pocahontas. They were blessed with 5 children. In 1996 Bruce and Katy moved to Pocahontas but he continued to help son Joe with the farming through fall of 2012. He was a member of the American Legion and Resurrection Parish. He enjoyed collecting and restoring antique tractors, camping and especially enjoyed time with his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife; children, Diane (Steve) Boka of Muscatine, Dennis (Sandy) of Pocahontas, Patricia (Gregg) Gerson of Tucson, AZ, Joseph (Kelly) of Pocahontas, and Douglas (Diane) of Altoona; grandchildren, Jeremy Boka and Mary Boka of Altoona, Wendy Boka of San Antonio, TX, Matthew and Mitchell Bauer of Pocahontas and Taylor and Danielle Bauer of Altoona; great-granddaughters Lily and Lauren Boka of Altoona; brothers, Dallas (Joyce) and Kendall (Elaine); sisters-in-law, Ellen Bauer, LeAnn Bauer and Sharon Bauer. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Brian Boka; sisters, Bonnie DeMers and Beverly Fernau and brothers Garth and Boyd.
