---Peter was born in Poppenhusen (near Wohrden) Schleswig-Holstein, Germany (North of Hamburg) the son of Detlef Garms and Telsche [ Hinrich ] Garms. His siblings are believed to be Anna Cathrina Garms - 1829. Marareta Dorthea (Dorthy) Garms -1836, and Detlef Ferdinand (Dudley?) Garms -1838.

---Peter immigrated to the USA and worked his way across and sent money back for his brother and sisters to come later. The 1900 Census states he immigrated in 1859.

---Peter immigrated to Bloomington Illinois.. was naturalized there ( Sept 16, 1874 according to one source) and married Margaret Lillienthall (also from Schleswig, Germany) there Oct. 13, 1864 . The June 17, 1870 census lists his family in McLean Co. Ill, age 37, and from as Holstein as was his parents and with sons William, Louis, and John, plus a brother-in-law Henry Lillienthal. Elizabeth, Henry, Caroline were born in Ill. and the rest ( Mary, Christina, Ben) were born in Texas. This would also indicate they came to Brown Co.,Texas near Bangs about 1876.

---He had nine children: William (Bill) Garms -1865, Louis Garms -1867, John Garms -1869, Elizabeth (Lizzy) Garms-1871, Henry Garms -1873, Carolina (Carrie) Garms [Wright], Mary Garms [Mosier] -1877, Christina Wilhelmina Garms [Tervooren]-1879, and Benjamin Peter Garms -1883.

Peter was a farmer.

An copy of the obit. in Manard Messenger paper states that he died at the home of Doc Lockett (son-law) in Callahan Co. It stated he died of lagrippe.
