---Louis was the second of nine children of Peter Hinrich and Margaret [ Lillienthall ] Garms. He had nine children: William (Bill) Garms -1965, Louis Garms -1867, John Garms -1869, Elizabeth (Lizzy) Garms-1871, Henry Garms -1873, Carolina (Carrie) Garms [Wright], Mary Garms [Mosier] -1877, Christina Wilhelmina Garms [Tervooren]-1879, and Benjamin Peter Garms -1883.

---Louis married Alwilda Goff March 21, 1894. They had ten children. They were Lillian Del Garms [Stacey ]-1894, Marian E. Garms -1896, Harry Garms -1898, Pauline Garms [Carr] - 1900, Wayland Andrew Garms -1902, May Beryl Garms [Harriss] -1903, Ruth Garms [Terry] -1905, Debs C. (Tex) Garms -1907, Warren Garms - 1910, and Kenneth Berger Garms -1914.

---Louis attended Howard Payne College in Brownwood (1892 was HPC's third year) and was made superintendent of Bangs schools in 1892. Louis taught and worked for Bangs schools about 25 years. He also worked as a farmer. He served as a Justice of the Peace for Bangs, Texas for a while including 1896 .
