George Rothrock was the eldest of nine known children of Solomon Rothrock (1786-1867) and Sarah Clark Rothrock (1795-1860), who married c1815 at Oneida County, New York.
The famiy moved to Indiana in 1818.

George married Margaret Gilleland (some records show her as Penilla Hall Gillen?) (b. c1813 at Virginia) on 27 Jul 1837 at Harrison County, Indiana. It is not known when Margaret died or where she is buried. George and Margaret were the parents of eight known children, namely:

1. Mary E. Rothrock (Gilland?) (c1834-???)
2. Sarah A. Rothrock Hughes (1838-1915)
3. Simon Rothrock (1840-c1885)
4. Peter Rothrock (1841-1863), died while serving with Union during Civil War)
5. Margaret Rothrock (1843-1864)
6. Lenora Josephine Rothrock Mills (1846-1939)
7. Julius Rothrock (1849-1865)
8. Charity J. Rothrock Froman (1852-1939)

George worked in a lumber mill owned by his father. George died of cholera while on a trip down the Mississippi with a load of lumber from his mill. He is thought to be buried on the banks of the Mississippi near Helena, Phillips County, Arkansas or in a nearby cemetery, though no grave can be located for him.
