Maurice E. Arnold Manhattan, Kansas
passed away Thursday, morning, June 22,
1989, at St. Mary's Hospital in Manhattan
Kansas. He was eighty-eight years old.
He was born May 2, 1901, in Liberal,
Kansas, the son of Fred W. and Carrie
(Gamber) Arnold. He grew up in
Vermillion and graduated from Vermillion
High School in 1919. While in Vermillion
he learned the printing trade while working
for his father, Fred W. Arnold who owned
and operated the Vermillion Times
Newspaper.
After his graduation he move to Marys-
ville, Kansas where he worked for the
Marshall County News until 1944.
He married Blanche M. Morton in
Marysville in 1922. She preceded him in
death in 1983.
He move to Salida, Colorado, for a brief
period before returning to Manhattan. He
then moved to Marysville, where he
became one of the owners of the Marysville
Advocate until 1948, when he returned to
Kansas State University I the printing shop
he was a typesetter for various publications
including the K-State Collegian until his
retirement in 1970. He spent most of his
retirement years caring for his wife, who
had Parkinson's Disease.
He was a member of the Crestview
Christian Church in Manhattan, the
Masonic Lodge AF & AM, and the Order
Of the Eastern Star, both in Marysville.
He also was a recent recipient of the
Super Senior Award for Crestview
Christian Church.
Survivors are two sons, Maurice E.
Arnold Jr., Tulsa Oklahoma and Robert
F. Arnold, Manhattan, Kansas three
grandchildren and seven great-grand
children.
Funeral services were at 1:00 p.m.
Saturday, June 24, 1989 from the
Crestview Church in Manhattan with the
Reverend William Shea officiating.
Graveside services were at 3:30 p.m.
Saturday at the Vermillion Cemetery
In Vermillion, Kansas.
