Letitia Churchill Buck was born on her father's plantation near Morganfield, Kentucky, the third of seven children. It was there that she later married her husband, Peter Charles Buck. Peter adored Letitia, and set about to providing a good life for her and for their rapidly-growing family. In the fall of 1865, Peter moved their family to Johnson County, Missouri, where he would practice law. Unfortunately, the climate there did not agree with Letitia, and both she and her husband had struggled with various ailments since the War. So in 1880, Letitia and Peter traveled to Arkansas to visit with Peter's relatives there, and also to ascertain if the climate there was more favorable, but Letitia sickened shortly after their arrival, and she passed away within months. She was 40 years old and in her few years was mother to 11 children, five of whom lived to maturity.
