Mustered in on 28 Aug 1861. Wounded at Mine Run VA on 27 Nov 1863. Captured 21 Jun 1864 at St. Mary's Church VA. Sent to Lynchburg Prison; escaped but was recaptured. Subsequently held captive at Libby, Belle Isle , Miller, and Andersonville Prisons. Was paroled at Andersonville, allegedly by assuming the identity of a prisoner who had died. Mustered out on 4 Feb 1865.


Attended the ceremonies at dedication of memorial at Andersonville in 1905.
