Edward Giles was shot by his former "overseer" on a plantation in New Madrid, Mo., on the 12th of February 1866, when he traveled from his new home at Marietta, Ohio to New Madrid, Mo., to bring his mother-in-law to live in Marietta.
Instead, she escorted his dead body back to Marietta for burial in the Mound Cemetery.
