Montrose -- Margaret M. Dukart, age 94, of Montrose, died early Saturday morning, April 27, 2002, at the San Juan Nursing Home in Montrose. Margaret, the daughter of Jake and Anna Holzmeister, was born in Topeka, Kan., on Nov. 11, 1907. In 1914 the family moved to Delta County to a farm on Ash Mesa.

On June 19, 1927, Margaret was married to Victor Dukart at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Delta.

The couple moved to the Dukart ranch in the Zuni Mountains in New Mexico. In 1931 the family moved to the Blue Water Valley near Grants, N.M., where they resided until moving to the Spring Creek Mesa area of Montrose County in 1945. The Dukarts were engaged in farming until they retired.

In 1977 they moved into Montrose where they made their home until the times of their deaths. Margaret enjoyed sewing and crocheting for all of her family. Victor and Margaret loved playing cards and camping with their family. They especially loved being with their grandchildren.

Surviving family members who were proud to share Margaret's life are two sons: Victor Dukart Jr. and wife Dorothy; Don Dukart and wife Rose Ann; two daughters: Carolyn and husband Tom Middleton; Margie DeVincentis; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren. Other family survivors include one brother, Jake Holzmeister; and four sisters: Ann Distel, Katie Suppes, and Rose Johnson, all of Montrose; and Regina Fischer, of Gallup, N.M.

In addition to her parents, Margaret was also preceded in death by a daughter, three brothers, three sisters and her loving husband, Victor.

A rosary service was recited Monday, April 29, at 7 p.m. at the Montrose Valley Funeral Home Chapel. A Funeral Mass was officiated by Msgr. Dan Huber on Tuesday, April 30, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Montrose, with Rite of Committal following in the Grand View Cemetery, west of Montrose.

Memorial contributions may be made to: St. Mary's Building Fund, In Memory of Margaret Dukart, St. Mary's Catholic Church, 1855 St. Mary's Dr., Montrose, CO 81401-5011. Arrangements are being handled under the direction of Montrose Valley Funeral Home.
