BUTCHER MANY YEARS, PIONEER RESIDENT, DIES 12-31-28

Frank Banscher, 76 years Old, Passes at Home After Lingering Illness.

Frank Banscher, 76 years old, a resident of this city for more than fifty years and formerly for an extended period the joint proprietor of a butcher business in the west end of the city, died at 8:30 o'clock this morning at his home, 431 Sixth street, Rock Island, after a lingering illness.

A native of Germany, Mr. Banscher came to his country when a young man, and had made his home in Rock Island continuously since. He was a charter member of camp No. 309, Modern Woodsmen of America, and active for many years in its affairs.

Born Dec. 16, 1852, in Baden Unter Groenbach, Germany, Mr. Banscher was reared and educated in that country. He came to the United States in 1868, a short time later establishing his butcher business with his brother, the late Modest (?) Banscher, at 600 Fourth avenue. In 1902, he sold out on account of poor health, and had been practically retired since. Mr. Banscher was married to Miss Barbara Vetter in Rock Island on January 20, 1880.

Surviving besides the widow are two sons, John E. and August P. Banscher, both of Rock Island; a daughter, Mrs. Catherine Osborn of Rock Island; four sisters, Mrs. Lena Miller of California, and Mrs. Emily Merk, Mrs. Mary Ohlweiler and Mrs. Louise Fleming, all of Rock Island, and four grandchildren. Two sons preceded their father in death.

The body was removed to the Moeller mortuary, pending arrangements for the funeral.

The funeral will be held at 4 o'clock Wednesday after at the residence with Rev. Fred J. Rolf officiating. Burial will be in Chippiannock cemetery.
