He served in the U.S. Army, worked for N.N.S.D. Co. and retired from civil service as transportation motor pool officer at Fort Monroe after 34 years. He was also a volunteer fireman at the Phoebus Fire Station for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Mozelle Campbell; sisters, Barbara Ascar and Brenda Campbell; his wife of 24 years, Juanita Campbell; and many other family members.
He is survived by his daughter, Deborah Campbell Easterling and her fiancé, Cecil Shaw, of Smithfield; grandsons, Michael L. Easterling Jr. of Hampton and Christopher L. Easterling of Smithfield; brother, Donald G. Campbell and his wife, Crystal, of Springfield, Va.; sisters, JoAnne Brinson of Williamsburg and Phyllis Jean Noland and her husband, Jim, of Gloucester, Va.; stepchildren, Sue Watson and her husband, Ray, of Hampton and Ben Williams.
He was an avid outdoorsman, was happy boating, deep-sea fishing and fresh water fishing, hunting and watching NASCAR. He will always be remembered for his caring for others, giving and sharing with family and friends his venison, fish, etc., always making certain that each piece was ready for the cooking. All who knew him will always remember him for 'being there' for others.
