Lucretia was the daughter of Mordecai and Leah "Lazarus" Cohen. She married Thomas Whitlock Mordecai, Sr., son of Joseph and Esther "Marache" Mordecai. They were the parents of 18 children, half dying in infancy. Her youngest child, Thomas Moultrie, was born when Lucretia was 48 years old. Her oldest son, also named Thomas, died in 1861, at age 22, on Sullivan Island, a member of the Confederate army. She was widowed at age 58. Her surviving son, Thomas Moultrie, was a successful Charleston attorney who remained close to his mother until her death at 81.
