A.T. Dean was born in what is now Wadley, Clay Co. AL. He was the son of Mary Elizabeth CULPEPPER and John Wesley DEAN. On Nov 20, 1872 he married Lacy HUDSON the daughter of Jane KELLY and William Kenady Hudson. They had 3 children of which one died in infancy. Lacy died a short four yrs later when a tree limb cracked and fell on her. She left A.T. to raise their two surviving children, Irena Viola Dean and Joseph Barnett Dean. A.T. remarried Seletta E. CALLOWAY on Aug 25, 1878. They had five children:
Izadora Tullah - Wesley Elisha - Walter L.-Mattie Eugenia-Thomas Luthor. The Deans owned a store & Post Office in what is now marked on some maps as "historical Dean, AL". Still partially standing. Across the street flowers still grow 100 yrs later where the house used to stand.

Dean, age 76 years and five months, died at his home in the Campbell's Cross Roads community Tuesday, after a long illness. His health began failing about five years ago and he had been unable to get out of his house since November, 1926, and confined to his bed continously since January.Funeral services, conducted by Rev. G. M. Bynum, pastor of the Lineville Methodist Church, were held Wednesday morning and the remains were interred in the Campbell's Cross Roads cemetery.The deceased was the father of our townsman, J. B. Dean. Three other sons, Walter, Wesley, and Luther Dean, and three daughters, Mrs. Jno. W. Carpenter, Mrs. C. W. Hudson and Mrs. R. S. Finch, also his widow, survive him.In the passing of Mr. Dean the county loses one of its best citizens.
