Tressa Rebecca Butner was born July 30, 1836, at Winston-Salem, N.C., and died at her home in Fredonia, Aug. 6, 1929, at the age of 93 years and 6 days.
When she was 16 years old they moved to Missouri. In 1855 she was married to Jonathan Evans and to this union were born three children, Lucy, James and Nancy; James, alone, surviving. Mr. Evans died in the army during the Civil War.
She was married to John Nowlan in 1867, and to this union four children were born: Mary Elizabeth, Harriet, Neva and Dora. Of these children, Mary E. Mussett, alone, survives. Mr. Nowlan died November 6, 1900.
Mrs. Nowlan was one of Fredonia's oldest residents, both in point of age and years of residence, having lived in Wilson county for more than 49 years.
She leaves to mourn her decease, besides her living children, 12 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild and two brothers, Allen Butner of Wheatland, Wyo., and T. C. Butner of Farley, Mo., and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church yesterday morning at 10 o'clock, Rev. Charles D. Todd, pastor, officiating and burial was made in Butner cemetery, 7 miles southwest of Fredonia.
Pall bearers were her grandchildren and great grandchildren: James Mussett, O. M. Carter, Joe Evans, Ernest Carter, Newt Carter and Clyde Carter.
