Evelyn Daffin Rachels September 7, 1917 - May 29, 2004 COLUMBUS, GA - Evelyn Daffin Rachels, 86, of Columbus died Saturday, May 29 at St. Francis Hospital. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 2 in the Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Macon Road Chapel with Pastor James R. Swilley, Reverend T. Ray Rachels and Reverend Eugene Forehand officiating. Burial will follow in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. this evening at the funeral home. Mrs. Rachels was born September 7, 1917 in Marianna, Fla., daughter of the late Charlie Leo Daffin and Myrtle Sills Daffin. She was also preceded in death by her brother Robert Augus Daffin and a sister, Jane D. Abercrombie. She was retired from her families business with D&R Grocery. She was a member of North Highland Assembly of God Church where she was a member since 1936. Survivors include her loving husband of 68 years, Talmadge R. Rachels of Columbus; a daughter, Dorothy Rachels (B. Fred) Belvin of Columbus; a son, T. Ray (Judy) Rachels of Huntington Beach, Calif.; brothers, Lonnie (Lunette) Daffin, Johnnie E. (Martha Jean) Daffin, of Columbus; sisters, Elizabeth D. Pafford of Columbus, Minnie Ola (Nick) Houseknecht of Hugheville, Pa., and Murlee D. (Sammy) Mizell of Lakeland, Fla.; grandchildren, F. Eric Belvin, Rachel (Patrick) Peters, T. Scott (Julie) Rachels, Lance (Brenda) Rachels and Heather (Caleb) Clements; great grandchildren, Paul Peters, Annelise Ruth Peters, Conor Eric Belvin, Madison Ann Rachels, Lauren Elise Rachels, Kathryn Evelyn Rachels, Luke Ray Rachels and Joshua Andrew Rachels.
