S. L. ALLEN RITES ARE CONDUCTED AT FAMILY HOME

Well Known Druggist Dies After Short Illness

The funeral of Samuel Louis Allen, 56 [sic], well known Monroe druggist died at 1801 Jackson street, Tuesday afternoon at 4:00 o'clock, with Rev. W. C. Scott, pastor of the First Methodist Church, officiating. Interment was in the old city cemetery. Pallbearers were: J. W. Standley, J. B. Parker, Marx Fink, H. F. Smith, John Munholland, Leon Sugar, Fred Coon and S. M. McReynolds.

Mrs. Allen's death occurred after a week's illness at his home here at 4:30 Monday.

He began his career as a druggist at Mansfield, where he was employed from 1893 until 1898, when he removed to Monroe. From 1904 until 1908 he was associated with the Parker-Black drug firm of New Orleans as a traveling salesman, but still maintained his residence in Monroe.

His first business in this city was established in 1908,when [he] purchased the Starsney drug firm here. Of more recent time and at the present, he was operating the Phoenix Drug store at 348 DeSiard street.

Mr. Allen was twice married. His first wife was the former Miss Elizabeth G. Garrett, sister of Judge David I. Garrett. She died in 1912 and in 1917 he was married to Miss Olive Chambliss, of Calhoun, who survives.

In addidtion to his widow, Mr. Allen leaves one daughter, Mrs. H. A. Miller. He also is survived by a sister, Mrs. A. S. Baskett of Dallas, and a brother, W. E. Allen of Monroe.

**Second wife Annie Olive Chambliss was a first cousin to Samuel's first wife, Elizabeth Garrett.
