Stanley Matheson

Stanley Matheson, 82, a retired educator and a resident of Pacific Grove since 1942, died Wednesday at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula following a period of failing health.
Born March 31, 1906, in Seattle, he graduated from Pacific Grove High School in 1924. He attended the University of California at Berkeley, where he earned bachelor's and master;s degrees in English, and he went on to teach at Visalia Junior College.
During World War II Mr. Matheson served in the Red Cross at Fort Ord. After the war he continued to work in the Army Education Center as an educational adviser until his retirement in 1971.
He is survived by his wife, Anna; two daughters Marcia Norris of Sacremento and Mary Ann Matheson of Taos, N.M.; a brother S.H. Matheson of Carmel; a nephew; and two grandchildren.
Private family services will be held. Inurnment will take place at Carmelo Cemetery in Pacific Grove. The Paul Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
The family suggests that and memorial contributions be sent to the General Fund at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula.
