Arthur W."Buddy" Engelke, 80, of Waco, passed away Monday, February 4, 2013, at his residence. Services will be 10 a.m., Saturday, February 9, at Bellmead Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lester Adams officiating. Burial will be at Friedens Cemetery in Riesel. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, February 8, at Bellmead Funeral Home.

Buddy was born in Riesel, Texas, to the late Henry and Helena (Lange) Engelke. He married Janie Ryno on December 18, 1953. Buddy was a retired engineer from the Union Pacific Railroad where he worked for over 20 years. Buddy started playing guitar at age of seven and had a great love for music. During his music career he played with Bob Wills, Willie Nelson, etc…. He enjoyed the outdoors and never met anyone that didn't soon become his friend.

He was preceded in death by four brothers; and four sisters.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Janie Engelke; daughters, Kathy Strickland and husband, Will, of Clifton, Nancy Blankenship, of Whitney, Brenda Ellis and husband, Karl, of Gholson, Peggy Buzbee and husband, Tommy, of Gholson, Christine Young and husband, Dwayne, of West, Judy McCartney Davis and husband, Jack, of Eddy, and Margaret Engelke and Jeff, of Gholson; son Buddy Engelke Jr. and wife, Tish, of Whitney; sisters, Helen Doyle, of Houston, and Sissy Uptmore, of Waco; brother, Louie Engelke, of San Antonio; 20 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
