Aaron Nimmo, 89, passed away February 3, 2013 at Golden Living Sycamore Village, Kokomo.
Aaron was born on April 19, 1923 in Georgetown, Arkansas, the baby and last survivor of four children born to James Frank and Mabel (Hooper) Nimmo.
A proud veteran of WWII, he always referred to his unit as a group of misfits, since all the servicemen had a handicap of some type. Aaron was blind in one eye, the result of a childhood accident. He arrived in Okinawa, Japan the day before the war ended. He liked to say he got things done.
On December 8, 1944 he married the love of his life, Onnie Bell Prince, in White County, Arkansas. They were married for over 65 years until her passing in October 2011. In 1950 the Nimmo family relocated to Indiana and Aaron found work at Hoosier Iron Works. He later worked in home construction, building many of the homes in the Cedar Crest area. He also worked as a cement finisher. In 1962 he and Onnie Bell constructed their own home in Taylor Township. He retired as the furniture deliveryman for Robert Miller and Son Furniture.
Aaron and Onnie Bell raised their family in the First Assembly of God Church where he also served as a Sunday school teacher and Deacon. They also enjoyed square dancing and both loved to travel. Aaron was fortunate to have visited all 50 of these United States.
He liked to play a friendly game of poker and always enjoyed a good joke. Over the years he hand cranked a lot of homemade ice cream for all to enjoy, especially with fresh peaches.
His work ethic and legacy continues in Nimmo and Sons Concrete.
Aaron is survived by his three children, his favorite son Dannie (Glenda) Nimmo, daughter Wanda (Larry) Taylor and his ornery son Rex Nimmo all of Kokomo; two granddaughters, Nikki Nimmo (Thomas) Williams, Kokomo and Amanda Mickler (Todei) Lewis, Indianapolis; and great grandchildren, Cassie Artrip, TreAndre Williams, Kaylee Williams and Avory Maebell Lewis. Also surviving are nephews and a niece in South Carolina.
The family acknowledges and appreciates the nursing staff and CNAs of Sycamore Village for the kind and compassionate care extended to our Dad. He liked to flirt with the girls and will be remembered for his parting catch phrase: "Glad you got to see me."

There will be a funeral service held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel, 3400 South Webster Street, Kokomo with Rev. Brian Cook officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, Greentown, with military honors by the Kokomo VFW Military Rites Team and the United States Army. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, also at the mortuary.
