Born at Shirleysburg on December 26, 1896, he was a son of Howard B. and Minnie (McGarvey) Peterson. He was united in marriage to Thelma R. Ulsh, who survives, along with a daughter and two sons; Mrs. Pauline V. Grant, Cumberland, Md., with whom he made his home; Howard H. Peterson, Lavale Md. and Richard D. Peterson, Eckhart, Md.
There are 12 grandchildren. Peterson was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, No. 245 of Cumberland.
He was a retired meat cutter.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 28, at 10 a.m. from the George funeral home, 202 Greene Street, Cumberland, Md. Viewing will be held at the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today.
Additional viewing will begin at 1 p.m. Friday at the Germany Valley Stone Church of the Brethren where the Rev. John Keiper will conduct services at 1:30 p.m. Interment will be made in the Germany Valley Cemetery
