Bart was the son of Julius Andrew Bush and Mary Catherine "Kit" Parker Bush. He first married Roxie B. Renfro on September 28, 1897 in McCulloch County, Texas. They had one child, William Bush.

He later married Myrtle Grace Frances, the daughter of Dennis Jefferson Frances and Virginia Ellen Tackitt, on September 4, 1907 in Milburn, McCulloch County, Texas. They raised three children, Arvel B., Clemis, and Melba Grace, living near Placid and later Mercury, Texas.
