Ben was critically injured at the Solano County Fair the summer of 1940 after being kicked in the head by a horse leaving him with permanent neurological issues and cranial damage.
With the loss of his wife, Catherine June in 1945 from Tuberculosis, Ben was left distraught. Since he was not able to recover from his wife's death and his own personal disabilities, he lost custody of his children.
Ben was killed when he was struck by a VW bus at 2 am trying to cross the boulevard at the intersection, Auburn blvd. and College Oak Dr, in Sacramento. He was intoxicated at the time of his death. He suffered massive head injuries and died immediately at impact.
Even though he couldn't care for his children, he was close to his daughter, Linda and twin boys, Richard and David.
Ben never remarried.
Him and his wife, Catherine, lie and rest eternally and irrevocably side by side together in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Ben was born in 1911, as there is an error on his gravestone.
Forever in our hearts. Rest in Peace Grandpa.
