Richard C. "Dick" Allen I, 77, died at 4:45 PM Friday, February 1, 2013, at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima.
He was born on Friday, July 19, 1935 in Stockbridge, Michigan, he was the son of the late Cliff Allen and the late Freda Mae Dorman Allen.
He married Nancy Watkins on December 24, 1966 in Lima and she survives.
He graduated in 1953 from McGuffey High School and played basketball for them. He coached Little League Baseball for his sons and then his grandsons and coached youth basketball at the YMCA. He was also a Cub Scout leader. He loved spending time with his family, while proclaiming he was "a very blessed and rich man" and loved reading. He retired from Dana Corporation on March 31, 2000. He served in the US Army from Sept. 1957 to June 1960.
Surviving are two sons; Richard "Chip" (Sherry) Allen II of Lima and Chad (Emily) Allen of Hamilton; four daughters; Marsha (Don) Mangin of Lima, Tina (Rodney) McCormick of Lima, Rikki (Mike) Hatton of Spencerville and Tami (Bruce Ames) Allen of Lima; fourteen grandchildren who lovingly called him PaPa, Amber Allen, Brittney McCormick, Brett McCormick, Breeanna McCormick, Landen McCormick, Richelle Bradley, Greg Bradley, Craig Bradley, Jeffery Johnson II, Zane Allen, Tana Allen, Richard Clyde Allen III, Elliotte Allen and Tyeler Luke; six great-grandchildren who called him GP, Kayden Goodwin, Arionna Parrish, Zae'onna Allen, Jaionna Johnson, Jordyn Allen and Alexis Allen. He is also survived by two sisters; Evelyn (Jim) Scott of Bucyrus and Jeri Newman of Kenton; Brother-in-law, Earl Corbet of Saginaw, MI.
He was preceded in death by a sister Phyllis Corbet and a brother-in-law Ronnie Newman.
Funeral services will be at 11:30 AM on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home with Rev. Dan Campbell officiating.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, February 5, 2013, at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home,
Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with graveside military services conducted by VFW Post #1275.
