LOUISIANA - Marion Alfred (Junior) Powell, 74, of Bowling Green, died Saturday, March 19, 2005, at Hannibal Regional Hospital.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today, March 22, at the First Baptist Church in Louisiana. Dr. Earl Wood, assisted by the Rev. Ben Teague, will officiate. Music will be provided by Pam Ince singing "The Lord's Prayer" and "Blessed Assurance." She will be accompanied on the piano by Janice Griffith. Burial will be at Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal.
Visitation was from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, March 21, at Collier Funeral Home in Louisiana.
Mr. Powell was born Oct. 11, 1930, in Spalding to James and Anna Marie Franklin Powell.
He was married to Shirley Ann Stringer on March 18, 1951, in Hannibal. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Melanie Powell of Hannibal and Marsha Lewellen and husband, Kevin, of Highland Village, Texas; two grandchildren, Haley Lewellen and Joshua Lewellen, both of Highland Village, Texas; one sister, Frances Jackson of Lenexa, Kan.; two sisters-in-law, Geraldine Riney of Hannibal and Eileene Parks of Jefferson City; one aunt, Theo Franklin of Hannibal; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mr. Powell had been employed at Hercules Chemical Co. in Louisiana as an electrician for 34 years before his 1990 retirement.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, who served in the Korean War and was awarded the Purple Heart.
Mr. Powell was a member of the First Baptist Church in Louisiana, where he was a Sunday school teacher, trustee and deacon. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 370 in Louisiana and VFW Post No. 4539 in Eolia. He enjoyed restoring old trucks as a hobby. He also farmed and raised cattle.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church or the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, in care of Collier Funeral Homes Inc., 117 Barnard Drive, Louisiana, Mo. 63353.
Pallbearers will be Don Powell, Archie Moss, Marvin Jennings, Kent Adams, Terry Smith and James T. Griffith Jr.
