HANNIBAL David D. Powell, 74, Hannibal, died at 4:05 a.m., July 7, 2000 at Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Palmyra.
Memorial funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, at Smith Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Grand View Burial Park. There will be no visitation.
Mr. Powell was born May 27, 1926, at Spalding to James Robert and Anna Marie Franklin Powell.
He was married to Irma Morse, and she preceded him in death. He married Margaret Griffen Collins on June 25, 1970, in Hannibal. She died Nov. 25, 1997.
Survivors include a daughter, Betty Coffman, Garland, Texas; four sons, Jim Powell, Pensacola, Fla., Dean Powell, Golden, Colo., Bobby Powell, Kennewick, Wash., and Gordon Powell, Libby, Mont.; one step-daughter, Mary Mitchell, Payson, Ill.; a step-son, Chuck Collins, Hamilton, Ill.; one sister, Frances Jackson, Kansas; a brother, Alfred Powell, Bowling Green; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren and 11 step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold Powell and Glen Powell.
Mr. Powell was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II. He was a member of Prince Avenue Baptist Church and had worked as a custodian at Oakwood Elementary School in Hannibal and had previously been employed by Monroe City Die-Casting.
