Son of Samuel Richard Reed, Jr.(1899-1933) and Edna Elizabeth Comstock (1904-1995), he was born in New Haven CT and was named after his mother's paternal grandfather Merritt Augustus Comstock 6-23-1835 to 2-19-1917 find a grave memorial #29754240 of Old Lyme CT.  One elder sister, Grace Reed Brennan (who pre deceased him in 1978) and a younger half brother John Fred Walker "Johnny" of California. He attended the New York City high school of the arts and was a jazz drummer in the late 1940's into the 50's in a jazz quartet. He loved the music of Dave Brubeck and Frank Sinatra. He loved golfing and camping on the Sugar River in Newport NH and was an avid photographer. He was a very successful chemical salesman for the Stauffer Chemical company for many years. He was married twice and had many friends, there was really no one he couldn't make friends with. His sense of humor was amazing, I think it's where we, his kids, got our sense of humor and music appreciation from. There was a lot of laughter and music in our home. He would randomly break into song and made us laugh every day. He lived in NH from 1973 until his death by his own hand in 1989 while living at the Wall St Tower Apartments in Manchester NH.  He served in the Marine Corps from 1952-1954 and has 2 daughters Debra Grace Reed 1953-2010 and me as well as one son, Merritt, Jr who predeceased him in 1976 as well as 3 grand daughters and a grandson whom he sadly never got to know in life. We were left with only the question WHY?
