Henry T. Bates died at his home in this city Friday evening after years of suffering from asthma. Deceased was a native of the Empire state, having been born in Buffalo, New York, Sept. 1st, 1842. His boyhood days were spent there and he learned the trade of a painter, which he worked at through life when he was able. In 1866 he left New York and came westward, settling in this city. About this time he was united in marriage with Miss Mary Harris and three children were born to this union: Harry of this city and Mrs. Mabel Slater of Minnesota, who, with his widow, survive him. The youngest son, Charles, died a few years ago. Mr. Bates has been an intense sufferrer for years and has been incapacitated for any kind of work for some time. Yet in the face of all his troubles his disposition was sunny and he had a host of friends in this city. He was a member of Knights of Phythias lodge. The funeral was held from the house Sunday afternoon and the remains were laid to rest in the Union Grove cemetery.
