Ann Hester Besson was born after 1650 in Arundel County. MD . She was the daughter of Capt. Thomas "the Immigrant" Besson (1619-1679) and Hester Talbot (Caplin) Besson (1620-1692). Her mom came to Anne Arundel County, Maryland in 1650.

Anne married Col. Nicholas Gassaway (1634-1698) at Anne Arundel County, Maryland. Nicholas was the son of Thomas Gassaway Gaswaie (1600-1658) and Anne Collingwood Gassaway (1615-1647).
