Darlington- Edwin E. Alexander, age 53, of 940 Main Street, died on Saturday, Oct. 13, 1979, at his home. He was born in East St. Louis, Illinois, on October 20, 1925. He was a farmer radio dispatcher for the Lafayette County Sherriff's Department, a police officer for the City of Darlington; a former president and founder at the Rural Medical Ambulance Service, and a W.W. II veteran.
Survivors are his wife, the former, Helen M. Sowles, at home; his mother, Mrs. Edna Blanche Alexander of Tilden, Illinois; two sons, Ronald E. and Richard L., both of Madison; four daughters, Mrs. Richard Karen Rodgers of Madison, Beth of Monroe, and Susan and Lynne at home; three brothers, James of Newburgh, Indiana, Clifford of Tilden, Illinois, and Harold of Centeralia, Illinois; seven sisters, MRs. Mildred Ballone of Metropolis, Illinois, Mrs. Reva Robertson, Mrs. Laila Arnold and Mrs. Marianna Martin all of St. Louis, Missouri, Mrs. Edna Franklin of Pickneyville, Illinois, Mrs. Claudia Cole of Effingham, Illinois, and Mrs. Verna Jean Richenbach of Tilden, Illinois; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father and a sister, Clara.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 16, at 2 pm from the First Baptist church in Darlington with pastor Harty L. Curtis officiating. Burial will be in Union Grove cemetery. Friends may call at the Erickson Sharer Funeral Home on Monday after 3 pm and at the church on Tuesday from 1 pm until time of service.
