Longtime Boulder resident, Betty J. Pospahala, died June 21, 1999 at Frasier Manor. Betty lived in Boulder since 1939 and had resided at the Manor since July, 1988.
Betty the youngest of four siblings, was born in Monte Vista, Colorado on November 26, 1918 to Edward and Bessie Mae Abernathy, both of whom died before her 12th birthday. Betty married Edwin Pospahala in Monte Vista in 1938 and they moved to Boulder in 1939.
During the 1950s and 60s, Mrs. Pospahala was the kitchen supervisor at Baseline Junior High, retiring in the early 1970s. While at Frasier Manor, Betty volunteered in a number of service areas to assist those less fortunate than she.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin in 1977 and by her sister Lucille Higgs of Alamosa, Colorado. She is survived by a daughter, two sons; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and two brothers.
Her family said: Mom’s one great love in life was her family, of which she was very proud. She offered constant encouragement, kindness and support to all with whom she came in contact. This was especially evident in the relationship between Betty and her son-in-law and daughters-in-law. She treated them, in many ways, as her own children. Betty leaves behind the love and admiration of her family and friends, and the memory of a woman with a lovely, gentle sense of humor who touched the hearts of all who knew her.”
A memorial service was held at Mountain View Methodist Church on Monday, June 28, 1999. Burial was at Mountain View Memorial Park, with a reception following at Mountain View Methodist Church. A viewing was held for family and friends from 4-6 p.m on Sunday, June 27,1999, at Howe Mortuary In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in her name to the American Cancer Society
