RICE, Eva - I merely want to state a few facts concerning the life and character of Miss Eva Rice who departed this life August 3rd at 11 p.m. Miss Eva was an accomplished, gentle and obedient daughter of 21 summers. She was born and reared in the home where she died. She was the central figure around whom radiated all the forces and attributes that go to make home healthful, happy and content. She was the grand luminary who shed the light and loving fragrance that permeated the hearts and home of her parents and friends. One among many other virtues to her credit was her invincible loyalty to parental government and control. Submission and obedience were implanted in her youth and had grown and developed into full grown stars whose light was reflected in a way that brought into view and full recognition other amiable qualities and graces, which characterizes the purity and nobleness of true womanhood and qualifies the possessor for a life of usefulness and honor. She was especially proud of her musical attainment and entertained her music loving friends with the soft strains and thunder tones of her piano in such a manner that it called forth the latent elements of the soul itself. But now her instrument here is silent and so is her voice. But the consoling thought comes to us that last Wednesday night at 11 o'clock, when she entered the Heavenly choir, that the great Teacher had only to order another instrument {no training, no primary work} but entered at once into membership and full recognition of all that Heaven means. She was possessed of and put into practice many christian graces which so beautifully decorates the character of anyone but especially the young. She bore her suffering with that fortitude which none but a regenerated soul could have done and is now reaping the rewards of a short but well spent life, most of which was spent in the services of Him who died that she might live in the enjoyment and association of angels through the ceaseless ages of a never ending eternity. Respectfully. T.M. Rice. [Rogers Democrat - Rogers, Benton County, Arkansas - August 10, 1916]
