At 18, Jim enlisted in the Civil War, Company C, First Tennessee Volunteers (Cavalry) under Capt. Gouley and later served under Capt. Dick Van Dyke. He served 3 years and went through the siege at Vicksburg. Mustered out 08 May 1854 and returned home to TN and worked on his father's farm and at the store owned by the J A Turley family.
In 1875, he moved with his family to North Texas, settling in Fannin County, near RAndolph. He was 30 years old.
At the age of 49, He married Susie Elizabeth Reynolds Wilson on 26 Mar 1893. She had a previous marriage with one son, James Solomon Wilson.
They bought farm land in Randolph and prospered.

"The vet is spry, hearing good, reads without glasses and refuses to retire from active life...he has been a farmer, merchant, cotton broker. When asked as to how long he has until he has been retired from business, he jumped from his chair and stood his full 5 foot 10 inches and said 'I quit work when I left for this trip and will resume activites as soon as I return home.'"
Jim Queener was president of the Randolph Bank at the time of his death on 13 Aug 1935 in Randolph, TX. He was 91 years old.
